Recently i meet a friend and
while discussing in general topics, he asked me what i do in my free time. I
replied him that i do study/reading.
Then he asked, why and what
you study?
I replied, I enjoy reading
good stuffs, so i do study and i read good books and investment research,
blogs, reports and company’s annual report and analyze good stocks to look
investment opportunity.
His next question is what I
get by reading books?
I replied him in general that
reading good books gives me a different perspective to look things from
different angle and i get knowledge and it help me to take right decisions in
life and in investments. But this is the question that forced me to write
this blog today.
Most of the people don't know
the benefits of reading great books, they don't have any idea, and how they are
wasting their time on useless things.
My friend, remember- you have
only two things in your control, one is your choice and second is your time.
And the time is the most precious asset in the world because you cannot buy it,
you cannot borrow it and you cannot reproduce or rewind the time. Once the time
gone meaning it’s gone and it will never come back.
I will share my limited
knowledge on benefits of reading good books:
Mark Twain said-
"The man who does not
read good books has no advantage over the man who can't read them."
1: Reading is to the mind
what exercise is to the body- Just like any other muscle in the body, the
brain requires exercise to keep it strong and healthy. Reading, puzzle solving
allow mind to exercise and produce new cells and connectivity.
2: Reduce
stress-In our daily life activities, we face too much stress, so no
matter how much stress you have at work, in your personal
relationships, or countless other issues faced in daily life, it all just slips
away when you lose yourself in a great book.
3: Knowledge-Everything you
read fills your head with new bits of information, and you never know when it
might come in handy. The more knowledge you have, the better-equipped you are
to tackle any challenge you’ll ever face.
4: Vocabulary-the more you
read, the more words you gain exposure to, and they’ll inevitably make their
way into your everyday vocabulary. Being articulate and well-spoken is of
great help in any profession, and knowing that you can speak to higher-ups with
self-confidence can be an enormous boost to your self-esteem.
5: Memory improvement-When
you read a book, you have to remember an assortment of characters, their
backgrounds, ambitions, history, and nuances, as well as the various arcs and
sub-plots that weave their way through every story. That’s a fair bit to
remember, but brains are marvelous things and can remember these things
with relative ease.
6: Focus and concentration-In
our internet-crazed world, attention is drawn in a million different directions
at once as we multi-task through every day. In a single 5-minute span, the
average person will divide their time between working on a task, checking
email, chatting with a couple of people (via what-sapp, hike etc.), keeping an
eye on twitter, monitoring their smartphone, and interacting with co-workers.
This type of ADD-like behavior causes stress levels to rise, and lowers
our productivity.
7: Improve your writing
skill-This goes hand-in-hand with the expansion of your vocabulary: exposure to
published, well-written work has a noted effect on one’s own writing, as
observing the cadence, fluidity, and writing styles of other authors will
invariably influence your own work.
8: Bring tranquility-In
addition to the relaxation that accompanies reading a good book, it’s possible
that the subject you read about can bring about immense inner peace and
tranquility.
there are many more benefits
of reading good stuffs, just start reading, start learning and keep it
continue, the results you can experience.
